Dr. Robert Siegel Named to Viral Genetics, Inc. Scientific and Medical Advisory Board
Appointment Part of Expanded Research and Development Program Dr. Siegel is currently Clinical Associate Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and Director of the Critical Care Patient Center at the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Siegel, who specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine, is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Siegel's resume includes several industry grant supported research projects and stints as a principal investigator in several clinical trials primarily in the areas of infection and pneumonia. He is a well-known speaker on the subjects of infection, infectious disease, and resistance formation, and has authored several papers on these subjects. "The addition of Dr. Siegel enhances the skill-sets we have with expertise in chronic infection, and is part of our efforts to expand the overall scope of the SAB, and thus Viral's talents. Viral Genetics has always intended to pursue other possible applications of our Thymus Nuclear Protein (TNP) compound," said Haig Keledjian, President of the Company. "It has been a long-standing goal of ours to examine whether the compound may possibly hold promise for other infectious diseases, chronic infection, and cancer. I caution shareholders and investors to note that we are at the earliest stage of these research efforts, focusing on in vitro and preclinical testing. If warranted by this research, human testing would likely not commence for one to two years. Nonetheless, we are eager to begin down this path and Dr. Siegel's appointment is part of that process." "I am looking forward to working with Viral Genetics to further its knowledge of how modulation of the immune system can advance treatment of HIV and other viral infections. Use of the body's own immune system to attack virus and tumor is the ideal approach to treatment, since it limits the collateral damage to the body. I hope to help Viral Genetics with preclinical cancer therapy research and move into human trials to accelerate this area of study, which is so urgently needed. My patients with lung cancer, colon cancer, melanoma and lymphomas need more than surgery or chemotherapy to recover from their illness," said Dr. Siegel. At the time of his appointment Dr. Siegel purchased directly from Viral Genetics in a private transaction common stock and common stock purchase warrants.
