Viral Genetics, Inc. Names Elizabeth Hoffman, PhD. to Board of Directors

AZUSA, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 22, 2006 -- Viral Genetics, Inc. (OTC BB:VRAL.OB - News), a drug development company developing a biological therapy for the treatment of HIV infection, today announced that Elizabeth Hoffman, PhD., and President Emerita of the University of Colorado system, has joined its Board of Directors.

Dr. Hoffman served as President of the University of Colorado system from 2000 to 2005, and was named President Emerita upon the completion of her 5-year tenure. She currently serves as Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Hoffman received a PhD. in economics from the California Institute of Technology, a Masters and PhD. in history from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor in history from Smith College. Dr. Hoffman's academic career has been focused on economics, history and game theory and she has published several dozen articles.

Her election to the Board of Directors of Viral Genetics, Inc. represents the fourth time Dr. Hoffman has participated in the governance of a for-profit entity. From 2003 to 2005 she was a member of the Board of Directors of Target Corporation. Dr. Hoffman also has a lengthy history of experience in governance and fundraising for non-profit and academic organizations including the Colorado Institute of Technology, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the National Science Board, the University of Colorado Hospital, as well as a lifetime of community service.

In November of 2005 the Company completed the follow up portion of its Phase 3 double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multi-center study in South Africa of 137 HIV patients treated with either VGV-1 or placebo. The data from the study has been compiled and audited, and the Company expects to announce initial results of analysis in the first quarter of 2006.
