Viral Genetics Updates on Release of Results of Phase III Study and Market Activity

AZUSA, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Apr 21, 2006 -- Viral Genetics, Inc. (OTC BB:VRAL.OB - News), a drug development company developing a biological therapy for the treatment of HIV infection, stated on March 31, 2006 that it expected no significant delay in the release of the results of the clinical trial conducted in South Africa. The Company reiterates this expectation and it is continuing to analyze the data, which is now unblinded. Given the relative size of the database and the importance of the study, the Company is taking extra diligence in its analysis to ensure that it is properly interpreted and communicated to the public and all stakeholders.

The "TNP-001 Study" was a Phase III, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, multi-center study of 137 HIV positive patients treated with either VGV-1 or placebo that began enrollment in August 2004 and completed follow up in November 2005.

The Company is aware that the market price for its common stock has declined in the past week, but it is not aware of any specific cause for the decline and will not comment on it.

The Company is also aware that a Form 144 was erroneously recently filed on behalf of a shareholder of the Company, Southwest Land Trust and Investments, in connection with an alleged proposed sale of restricted stock. The shareholder has communicated to the Company that the filing relates to a cancelled request and has demanded that it be retracted by the broker-dealer.
